If anyone is considering the purchase of Siberian Huskies puppies and runs across a “husky puppies for sale” ad, they need to be aware of what is ahead of them in owning a husky.
It is important to know as much about the puppy as possible that you are going to purchase. Most breeders will be happy to supply as much information as needed in order to answer any questions that would be related to the sale of a husky puppy. Conversely, the breeder will want to know some information about the buyer as well, in order to be sure that the puppy will be cared for and special husky needs will be accommodated.
Siberian Huskies are very intelligent animals and like to be active. They are not good candidates for apartment living. They are clever, adventuresome and stubborn. They can be trained, but only if they think it’s a good idea. They are really pack animals, so they like company, even humans. They were bred to pull heavy sled loads, so they enjoy exercise, lots of exercise. About an hour per day of running is perfect.
If left alone in a yard for any length of time they will get bored, and possibly be destructive. They have a fetish for escaping by tunneling or jumping over fences. They like to explore and see what is on the other side of the hill, and they love to wander, which can present problems if they escape.
They do not need a bath more than once or twice a year. They should be brushed at least once per week, in order to get rid of loose hair in the upper coat. They shed their coats twice a year. They are wonderful companions and really enjoy another husky as a co-conspirator. They get along well enough with other dogs, but not cats due to their predatory nature.
All this to cover some of the duties that the owner of a husky will need to be able to commit to in order to have a successful husky experience. When the “husky puppies for sale” sign or ad comes up, the potential buyer needs to understand that this is not your usual lap dog with which he or she will be dealing.
The Siberian Husky is a vibrant, energetic companion, and has a lifespan of 10 to 14 years. They are healthy, as a rule for most of that time, being prone to glaucoma and cataracts, and possibly cancer as they age. If they are fed too much and don’t get enough exercise, they will tend toward obesity. They are not dogs that do well in warm climates and should not be vigorously exercised when it is hot.
When playing, they will totally enjoy the activity and will make all kinds interesting sounds. They like to please, but on their own terms. They will always be willing to go for a walk or a run, as they like to explore, so be sure to have them on a leash when taking them out.
If you are a Siberian Husky person and you can “live up” to the requirements, then you will thoroughly enjoy the experience and companionship of your friend when you respond to the “husky puppies for sale” ad.
